After multiple Elder Scrolls Online expansions that largely concentrated on revisiting series highlights, we now have one that gives us a previously unexplored area of the world. We’re going to the land of the Bretons! That doesn’t mean dolmens and oysters and a Welsh-like language. It means aristocrats, knights, druids, and, somewhat less predictably, weird crab-men. It does feature Brittany-like storms, though.
As usual, how soon, how much, and how often you dive into the new storyline – or if you even engage with it at all – is up to you. Regardless, the more you explore High Isle, the clearer it becomes that this isn’t quite like the rest of Tamriel. Posh accents are more common than usual, as are statues (rich people do love statues). Buildings tend to be more grand… and the creatures more bizarre.
You certainly should play through the new story, as it’s an interesting one. We hesitate to get any more enthusiastic than ‘interesting’ when it comes to the writing, as we can’t help but feel that a lot of potential has been squandered.
