Where will your bike take you this year? How far will you ride? How high will you climb? The pure, unadulterated joy of riding a bike is something that can never be taken away from us, but sometimes finding new rides to take on, places to go or things to do can be a chore. So we've pulled together a list of things we think you'll enjoy this year. From spectating at the first 'Super Worlds' in Glasgow this summer, to helping out in your local community, we've compiled a list of 42 things to inspire your riding and leave you with a warm fuzzy glow in your Lycra. So get out there, and make this a wonderful year of riding.
SUPPORT THE DOMESTIC SCENE
The UK cycling scene is more diverse than many people realise, with local racing and riding going on up and down the country. But it relies on people like you and me giving their time and getting involved. It's hugely rewarding and can be lots of fun too.
1 Spectate at a local race
The domestic men's season kicks off with the Hampshire-held Perfs Pedal Race on 12 February. The focus shifts to Aintree for the 61st Eddie Soens handicap on 11 March while the following day sees riders tackle the Jock Wadley Memorial in Essex. The women's action gets under way with the CICLE Classic in Rutland on 26 March, with the men's version taking place on 23 April. Both Lincoln GP races are on 14 May. Look out for more race dates in CW each week.
2 Be a pilot for a stoker
Tandem cycling is not just another way to ride, but it provides a crucial aid for stokers, who because of a disability or visual impairment cannot ride alone. Facebook group Tandem Pilot & Stoker Matching Service is a good place to find someone to link up with.
