South Africa blew England to earn a massive win in match number 20 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede in Mumbai on Saturday. Both sides came into the contest after being defeated by the likes of Afghanistan and the Netherlands, respectively. SA showed character and punched England, who had another sorry show with the bat. SA posted a record score of 399/7 in 50 overs. Heinrich Klaasen smashed a whirlwind 109. Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen smoked fifties. Marco Jansen hammered 75* toward the end. In response, England lost early wickets and were never in the run-chase. England were 100/8 at one stage before Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson added 70 runs. England perished for 170 to suffer a heavy defeat.
Here, we present the list of major records that were broken.
KLAASEN SCORES HIS 4th ODI TON, SURPASSES 1500 RUNS
South African dasher Klaasen smashed a sensational century. He clocked his fourth ODI hundred and also his maiden ton in ODI World Cup. Klaasen reached the triple-figure mark in 61 deliveries. Klaasen’s 109 saw him surpass 1500 ODI runs. He now owns 1517 runs in ODI cricket. Playing in his 45th ODI, he owns an average of 43.34 with a strike rate of 114.57.
THIRD-FASTEST CENTURY FOR SOUTH AFRICA IN ODI WORLD CUPS
Klaasen took 61 balls for his century. He has now recorded the third-fastest century for SA in the World Cup. Aiden Markram leads the show for SA (49 deliveries vs SL in 2023). AB de Villiers (52 deliveries vs WI in 2015) is next in line. Klaasen also smoked the sixth-fastest century at the ODI World Cup.
