So we are here once again, the Cheltenham Festival, the all glorifying climax to the National Hunt season. The whole season is geared to the four days at the Prestbury Park track which kind of tears me in half.
I too am guilty of using it as the main focus of my punting season, by setting up my ante-post book fully 11 months beforehand, yes I am one of the few professional punters that still believes in that format of betting and yet when I actually attend the big meetings I have to admit, purely from an ambience perspective, the Grand National festival at Aintree makes my skin tingle a whole lot more - with or without any ante-post interest.
As always I will be as transparent as I can be about my ante-post interests for Cheltenham with the following horses in my betting profile:-
Supreme Novices Hurdle - Romeo Coolio 25/1-each-way
Arkle Chase - Majborough - 10/1 each-way Turners Novices Hurdle - Kawaboomga - 20/1 - each-way Champion Chase Gaelic Warrior 7/1 - win Stayers Hurdle - The Wallpark 33/1 each-way Ryanair Chase - Protektorat - 25/1 each-way Triumph Hurdle - East India Dock 10/1 - each-way Gold Cup - Galopin Des Champs7/2 - win
It's not a perfect profile, but I am hopeful of still making a profit from that list and perhaps even more as we approach the main national hunt festival.
I think of all the horses in the above list, the one I would be most interested to row in again with is KAWABOOMGA. His second to Kopek Des Bordes was given an almighty boost at the Dublin Racing Festival and having heard from the yard they think an awful lot of this son of Tunis who was impressive in his own right when landing his maiden at Fairyhouse over two miles, never stronger than at the finish when staying on very strongly. I actually think he looks more at ease going left handed and he still look too big at a double figure price for the day two novice hurdle.
