MIRACLE WORKER
Soccer Club|December 2022
Gabriel Jesus was living in the shadows at Manchester City, but a move to Arsenal has made him the main man in north London - and he is revelling in the responsibility.

T
he contrast in fortunes beT tween the start of this English Premier League season and the last for Arsenal has been stark as they have Gunners fans believing that glory is just around the corner.

There are a number of factors involved in that, but one of the main reasons has been the goalscoring form of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus since he arrived at the club.

In the last window, Arsenal signed the striker for £45 million (approximately R900 million) in what could turn out to be one of the bargains of the season.

That sounds a hefty fee, but for a 25-year-old who is already a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, it is really just a snip.

Jesus had been at Manchester City since 2016, having been signed from Palmeiras back home, but long had to live in the shadow of Sergio Aguero and only more latterly became a somewhat regular starter in the side. Manager Pep Guardiola would on occasion even play without a recognised forward, leaving Jesus on the bench, as he clearly did not feel the Brazilian was the right man for the job.

The arrival of Erling Haaland at City ahead of the 2022/23 campaign sealed the fate of Jesus, and when Arsenal swooped in for him, he did not hesitate.
