Having experienced the pain of immediate relegation in 2017, the last time they campaigned in what is now the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Magesi FC are taking every precaution to ensure they avoid a second strike of lightning.
After ending 2022 in a reasonably comfortable 10th place with 16 points from 12 games, the club has shown its ambition by appointing the widely travelled Clinton Larsen to take over the coaching reins from Jacky Ledwaba, who had secured the club promotion to the second tier on both occasions they have achieved the feat.
Ledwaba, a former AmaZulu striker who won the PSL Golden Boot in the 2003-04 season, will continue as Larsen's assistant at the Limpopo-based club, one of six teams from the province playing in the second tier this season.
