It’s almost 20 years ago that McGoldrick made his debut as a 16-year-old for his hometown club. His career soon took him on his travels to the likes of Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Sheffield United and Derby.
Yet the 35-year-old former Republic of Ireland striker had a yearning to go back to his roots and the stars aligned this summer. Notts had won promotion back into the EFL under progressive manager Luke Williams and McGoldrick, fresh from a 25-goal season with Derby, fancied a return even if it meant dropping down a rung of the ladder.
