EXETER have yet to open talks with Joe Hawkins over a new contract as speculation mounts that the centre will be returning to Wales next year.

Hawkins linked with Wales move

The 22-year-old Hawkins, below, signed for Exeter last year from the Ospreys at a time when the Welsh regions could not offer competitive terms because their budgets had not been agreed with the Welsh Rugby Union.

He was on an academy contract with the Ospreys worth £20,000 a year and accepted the security Exeter offered, although it meant he would not be eligible to play for Wales as long as he was in England because of the 25-cap rule for exiles.

The five-cap Hawkins made 11 starts in the Premiership and Champions Cup for Exeter last season and was in the side for the first four Premiership matches this campaign. He has not been seen since the defeat to Newcastle in October.
