5th June at the WWDC, Apple lifted the lid on its much-rumoured augmented and virtual reality device. According to Apple, the Vision Pro is 'a revolutionary spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others. Based on visionOS, the world's first spatial operating system, Vision Pro features a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by your eyes, hands and voice. But what is it?
"Built upon decades of Apple innovation, Vision Pro is years ahead and unlike anything created before. With a revolutionary new input system and thousands of groundbreaking innovations, it unlocks incredible experiences for our users and exciting new opportunities for our developers."
Tim Cook, Apple's CEO
A New Kind of Computer
Apple Vision Pro changes the way you use your favourite apps, capture and relive memories, enjoy stunning TV shows and movies and connect with others in FaceTime. It has a lot in common with existing virtual and augmented reality headsets, such as Meta Quest, Sony PlayStation VR and Valve Index VR Kit, but it takes a new approach to personal computing. A great deal of attention has been paid to every single piece of technology involved in Vision Pro, in both its hardware and software, to give the user the most intuitive, intimate experience possible. It’s a new kind of computer, one which Apple describes as ‘spacial computing’.
