ex: You've had the opportunity to work in both independent and mainstream films. How different is the experience in these two mediums, and which one do you enjoy more?
Nawazuddin Siddiqui: Generalizing films, whether they belong to the independent or mainstream category, is unreasonable, as it differs from director to director. Cinema ultimately rests on the director's influence, and a profound comprehension of it reveals that not all mainstream filmmakers are subpar, just as not all independent filmmakers are exceptional. I find it gratifying to collaborate with directors who deeply understand their characters.
ex: You've portrayed characters with complex moral dilemmas in films like Photograph, Gangs of Wasseypur, Manto, and shows like Sacred Games. How do you relate to these roles, and what challenges do you face in immersing yourself in each character?
N: Apart from Manto and Photograph, Thackeray is among my most challenging roles. While portraying the role of Thackeray, I was told not to imitate or mirror Thackeray's persona; instead, I had to embody his essence authentically. Engaging in such roles is a delight, as they involve embarking on a comprehensive journey with the character, exploring both external and internal facets. Audiences also appreciate such characters, recognising their inherent difficulties for an actor.
ex: How has technology influenced your journey in the film industry, from auditions to marketing your movies? Are there any specific tech tools or platforms that have been instrumental in your success?
