We all love a bank holiday, especially when the sun is out, so here's all you need to know about St Lubbock's Day!
Happy August Bank Holiday!

Thank You, Sir Joh

As part of measure to regularise holidays for the working population, the Bank Holidays Act of 1871 established four new national holidays. As well as Easter Monday, Whit Monday and Boxing Day, August Bank Holiday was set for the first Monday in August, allowing workers a rest day to be enjoyed in the summer. Sir John Lubbock, the force behind them, said that if banks were closed, no work could be done. For a few years, they were informally called St Lubbock's Day in his honour. The August Bank Holiday was moved to a new date in 1971. So as not to clash with the traditional fortnight shut down that many companies had in the summer, it became the last Monday in the month, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
