It’s the last thing the King needs at the moment, as he adjusts to his new role as monarch while still grieving for his mother. But as he deals with the fallout of son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s controversial docu-series, those who know His Majesty well say he is refusing to let the pair’s public attacks on the royal family stop him from doing his job.
Royal insiders say Charles won’t “be blown off course by squalls from across the Atlantic”. While there is “mounting frustration” at the relentless complaints from Harry and Meghan, and the King and Camilla, Queen Consort are wearied by it all, the royal family hopes the California-based couple’s campaign against them will eventually run out of steam.
Throughout the royal households there is a sense of “here we go again”, says an aide close to senior royals. The six-part Netfl ix docuseries Harry and Meghan will be followed by the release of Harry’s memoir Spare, so everyone is bracing for an onslaught.
“It’s likely to be a difficult few weeks, but really, after that, what on earth more can they have to say?” asks the source. “Surely a time will come when even they realise they have got to get on with their lives. The rest of the family certainly want to.”
