Coronation crisis

King Charles' coronation has been planned for many years even long before the K death of his mother, Elizabeth II.

But with just a few weeks to go until the big event on May 6, His Majesty is still going over everything with a fine-tooth comb and even making last-minute changes, because he knows this one day is going to set the tone for his reign.

Charles is facing the dilemma of having to maintain traditional customs while appearing to be a thoroughly modern monarch, says royal biographer Tom Bower.

"Over the past weeks, to reconcile the old and the new, Charles has repeatedly changed details which were agreed long ago," says Tom. "Even now, he cannot decide whether to wear a uniform or be dressed in a gilded jacket and breeches.
