Demi Moore is ripping up the rule book when it comes to ageing. The GI Jane star turns 60 on November 11 and in her time, she's shaved her head, fought tooth and nail for pay equity, posed naked in the full bloom of pregnancy and published a soul-baring memoir.
Now, about to enter her seventh decade, she's as keen as ever to embrace the next chapter of her extraordinary life. She explains, "When I think of my grandmother at 60, she in a way seemed to be already resigned to being old. But I feel, in so many ways, more alive and present than ever."
Indeed, at an age when many women feel the need to cover themselves up, Demi has just launched a new capsule collection for her swimwear brand Andie and the star has been enthusiastically modelling her wares on social media.
"It's changing this idea that women become less desirable as we get older," she enthuses. "We don't want to look matronly or not feel sexy."
Despite growing up in Los Angeles, Demi didn't consider acting as a career until she encountered a girl living nearby who was just slightly older than herself.
"I thought she was the most incredible creature I had ever met," shares Demi. "Her name is Nastassja Kinski [who later went on to star in the acclaimed movie Paris, Texas].
We both lived in an apartment building in West Hollywood with our single mothers.
