WHO'S TELLING PORKIES NOW?

The duchesses and Harry just can't seem to get their stories straight
WHO'S TELLING PORKIES NOW?

Sarah, Duchess of York was one of the first members of Prince Harry’s family to meet his new girlfriend Meghan Markle and in fact taught the US actress how to curtsey. Her daughter Princess Eugenie is close to the couple, and when Harry and Meghan married in 2018, Fergie was on the guest list, despite not having been invited to previous royal occasions, including the wedding of Harry’s brother Prince William.

But now Fergie has claimed that she “doesn’t really know” the Duchess of Sussex. In an interview with a British newspaper, she said, “I haven’t really met her.”

It seems an odd thing to say when they have definitely been in each other’s company on numerous occasions, including the fi rst time Meghan met the Queen. Harry detailed the occasion in his book Spare, writing about how he was keen for his girlfriend to meet his aunt in October 2016 at Royal Lodge, the Windsor home Fergie shares with Prince Andrew. Then at the last minute, they heard the Queen was dropping in. Harry, 38, wrote that as they arrived, Fergie came out and asked Meghan if she knew how to curtsey. “Meg shook her head. Fergie demonstrated once. Meg imitated her.”

He and the duchess then both provided some useful etiquette tips, including telling Meghan, “Just, whatever you do, don’t talk over her.”
