Separate lives

Q Gradually my husband and I have started sleeping in separate rooms. It started as a snoring problem, but I feel like it's more now. I want us to act like a married couple again - is this normal? Susanne, Southampton

A This is clearly bothering you and so it's important that you stop worrying about what might be 'normal' - all relationships are different and yours is the one that matters.

Have you talked to your husband about your worries, what you would like to be different and why it matters to you? If he loves you, he will want to listen and for you to be happy.

Assuming your husband is the snorer, it's possible that he feels the same but has accepted the new arrangements because he doesn't want to disturb your sleep.

Without an honest and open conversation with him, you don't know how he feels and so you can't work out a solution together to suit you individually and as a couple.

If your husband wants to continue with separate rooms for other reasons, talking things through with a relationship counsellor will provide support to move forward.

There is help available! All the best.
