It’s been a funny old year for the Royal Family, to put it mildly! I’ve been meeting and covering the royals for more than 14 years and I don’t remember such a jittery year as this.

Sure, 2019 and 2020 were pretty seismic as the wheels started to come off Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with both the Palace and the family – which ended with them leaving both the UK and The Firm.

But after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the smooth transition of Charles to king and the success of last year’s coronation, it felt as if things were finally back on a firmer keel.

Both the individual family members and the palace courtiers wanted to put the public emphasis back on the institution’s duty, service and good works.
