EAT to boost your SEX LIFE
WOMAN - UK|August 28, 2023
Looking to rev up your sex drive? Then head to the kitchen – you’ll find an array of foods to help you get hot and steamy again. ‘These aphrodisiacs create a sense of heightened sexual state,’ says sex and relationship expert Annabelle Knight. ‘They also work by producing chemicals linked to sexual desire. Sometimes just thinking about an aphrodisiac may work as one.’ Here’s what to fill up on.
EAT to boost your SEX LIFE

Oysters

It’s not just an old wives’ tale – oysters really can get you in the mood thanks to the zinc they contain. ‘Low levels of zinc may result in low sex drive, as zinc is essential for the production of sex hormones,’ says nutritionist Rob Hobson. Hate the taste? ‘Other sources include lobster, red meat, nuts, pumpkin seeds and lentils.’

Red meat

Red meat is packed with iron – and iron deficiency affects 27%* of women in the UK. ‘Symptoms include tiredness, a common reason for a low libido, especially in women,’ says Rob. ‘As well as red meat, fill up on seafood, eggs, mussels and dark green leafy vegetables.’

Celery

This has been shown to increase the production of pheromones in men’s sweat. ‘We are basically still animals, and pheromones unconsciously give off sexual attraction to help us to find a mate,’ says nutrition expert Louise Westra. ‘So when pheromones are increased, it potentially makes a man more attractive to a woman.’

Eggs

However you like yours cooked, eggs contain choline. ‘This plays an important part in the nervous system, which supports nerve endings in the genitals and gives you a heightened sense of pleasure during sex,’ says Louise. ‘It also helps with blood supply to the periphery areas of the body, including the genitals, as well as hands and feet, which is essential for good sex.’

IS THERE ANYTHING MORE NOSTALGIC THAN CHRISTMASES PAST?

Do you remember the anticipation before the big day, pondering endlessly about what should go on your Christmas list? I would lovingly write two or three things down, pop it into an envelope and leave it by the fireplace to be wafted up the chimney like something out of Mary Poppins.
