There aren’t many things that are certain in life, but waking up on a weekday morning and seeing Lorraine Kelly’s smiling face on her eponymous ITV show is one of them. At least, that’s what we thought. But now, the star – who has fronted breakfast telly for the best part of 30 years – tells Woman that she fears she could get the sack at any moment.
Glasgow born Lorraine, 62, says, ‘I don’t at all [take my career for granted]. I’m a freelancer, your contract hopefully gets renewed every couple of years, but there will come a day when it won’t. Because that’s just how things are.’
It’s not the first time Lorraine – who shares daughter Rosie, 28, with husband of 30 years Steve Smith – has spoken openly about her career fears. ‘You’re not guaranteed a job for life and certainly not in TV,’ Lorraine admitted. ‘TV can be really ruthless.
‘You know what it’s like if you’re freelance. My contract is up every couple of years. I never take it for granted that it’s going to get renewed even after all this time, because you never know – you just never know.’
