Make money from your home LIKE US!

As we tighten our belts through a cost-of-living crisis, many people are finding different ways to earn some extra money. New research reveals that half of Brits (49%) are generating an average of £910 per year in extra income and savings*. For some, that might mean getting a second job, or cutting back on things that can be forgone.

We speak to three women who are using their homes to pocket some extra cash. Here, they explain how.

‘I LOVE SHARING MY HOME WITH PEOPLE’

Kim Stewart, 59, lives in Henfield.

After parting ways with my ex-husband in 2001, I moved to Great Betley Farmhouse in November 2007 with my children, then 14 and 11. It was a fresh start for me and I was full of excitement.

The 16th-century property boasted five bedrooms and was set on 200 acres of land. But it wasn’t easy to run, physically and financially, with four dogs and a cat to take care of, so the farm was rented out to another farmer. I muddled through the next few years, until the children moved out and I was faced with the conundrum of what to do next.

I’d always thought the house would be a great bed and breakfast, so I set to work to obtain the right qualifications and licences. In 2017, I got my food licence, and a few months later, I renovated the upstairs, adding an en-suite bathroom to the master bedroom and another bedroom, with the help of a local building firm.

IS THERE ANYTHING MORE NOSTALGIC THAN CHRISTMASES PAST?

Do you remember the anticipation before the big day, pondering endlessly about what should go on your Christmas list? I would lovingly write two or three things down, pop it into an envelope and leave it by the fireplace to be wafted up the chimney like something out of Mary Poppins.
