"They are symbols of self-expression'
Abigail Rebecca, 48, is a human design visibility coach and lives in Brighton with her partner Kev.
When I chose to have a tattoo on my inner forearm at the age of 45 I was so excited. The tattoo artist and I came up with a lotus flower with the phases of the moon entwined - a beautiful design to represent the power of leadership and visibility in women.
It meant a lot to me because I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, which I found to be controlling and restrictive. I was told what to wear and who to be friends with. My father even chose my GCSE subjects for me.
I left home when I was 16 but it took me a long time to heal. So getting my first tattoo at 45 was a huge step for me it was my choice and me taking control of my own body. Now, every time I look at my tattoo I'm reminded of my strength and tenacity.
