When I was younger I watched the soaps with my family. After all, we had a vested interest. My dad's cousin is Kathy Jamieson who had parts in Coronation Street and her husband is John McCardle who played Billy Corkhill in Brookside.
When I went to university and lived in a shared house, the soaps were something we all watched together, Neighbours and EastEnders becoming must-see television. But as TV started opening up to more channels, soaps suddenly weren't so popular with me.
