Britain's beautiful BEACHES

Here are some of our favourite British beaches. But do you know any that are even better?

West Wittering, West Sussex

This unspoilt sandy stretch of beach is found at the mouth of Chichester Harbour, home to numerous birds- waders, geese and swans- that feast on the abundant marine life. The beach is backed by a grassy car park, perfect for picnics if you prefer your sandwiches sand-free! It's a great place to swim or try your hand at kite- or windsurfing (lifeguards are present in peak season). When the tide's out there are plenty of shallow pools for kids to splash about in.

TOP TIP

You can walk or cycle all the way to the beach from Chichester (six miles away) along the flat Salterns Way.

Luskentyre, Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides

For peace, few British beaches can compare with Luskentyre, where you can experience true isolation. Often you’ll be the only person exploring the expanse of powder-white sands and aquamarine water. There’s so much wildlife to watch here – wild ponies graze along the dunes, while otters and seals visit regularly.
