As the young Prince enters double digits, we look at the last decade and what the future holds for the heir
ARIANA LONGSON
Glorious GEORGE

When he was born, the eldest of the Wales’ children knew nothing of the duty that will eventually be bestowed upon him. Rules, tradition, pomp and ceremony – these are all parts of the life the future King George is being prepared for. Expected to serve his country in the military, to remain impartial and to likely undertake etiquette lessons – for the last decade behind the doors of Kensington Palace, George’s life is arguably a world away from any other 10-year-old. Not only is he second in line to the throne, he also marks a new era for the institution as part of his grandfather’s modern monarchy.

A prince is born

The Prince and Princess of Wales – then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – welcomed their first child on 22 July 2013. Within moments of his birth the new Prince, who weighed 8lb 6oz, became third in line to the throne of one of the world’s greatest monarchies. Just a day later, King Charles III’s first grandchild was presented to the world on the steps of London’s St Mary’s Hospital Lindo Wing.

A (relatively) normal life
