'KATHLEEN WAS A LOVING MUM'

Karren has never doubted that her close friend is innocent

Karren Hall only left baby Laura for a few minutes to answer the phone but the scene she found on K her return is something she's played over in her mind hundreds of times since.

"I came back to where I'd left Laura sleeping on the lounge and she was grey, a yucky colour. I knew instantly something was not right and I went into protection mode," Karren, from Singleton, NSW, tells Woman's Day.

"She wasn't breathing and I couldn't wake her, so I scooped her off the lounge and put her on the floor, ready to do CPR. Before I did the first breath, Laura suddenly took this big breath and slowly started coming round." Within minutes, one-year-old Laura was back to normal, leaving Karren badly shaken.

But baby Laura wasn't Karren's own daughter. She was babysitting for her friend Kathleen Folbigg, who has since been convicted of murdering Laura as well as her two other babies, Patrick and Sarah, and the manslaughter of her first child, Caleb.

After serving 20 years of a 25-year jail sentence, Folbigg's case is now being reconsidered in an inquiry after scientists petitioned the courts, questioning her guilt.
