Hands in cuffs and flanked by police, Chris Dawson was finally led away. For many in the crowded court it was a fitting end to the 40-year mystery of his wife Lynette’s disappearance.
But even though the 74-year-old former school teacher, who became the subject of journalist Hedley Thomas’ hit podcast The Teacher’s Pet, was found guilty of murdering her, the journey for Lynette’s loved ones does not end there.
“It’s bittersweet for the family,” a source, who can’t be named due to ongoing legal proceedings, told Woman’s Day. “Lyn has finally been given a voice, which was so important to them, but they still don’t know where she is. Until that happens they can’t see complete closure.”
Lynette’s daughters, Shanelle and Sherryn, were just two and four when she went missing, and before the trial Shanelle posted her hopes on her Facebook page.
“My beautiful mother... Tomorrow begins a legal process, which will hopefully bring answers to questions that couldn’t find peace for far too long. I love you,” she wrote in touching tribute.
