The evening Number 96 premiered on the 0-10 Network (now Ten) in 1972, outraged media outlets dubbed it "the night Australian television lost its virginity".
Pitched as a "racier" version of Coronation Street, the prime-time soap, which followed the misadventures of residents who lived in a four-storey apartment block in Sydney's Paddington, broke new ground with its full-frontal nudity, sex scenes and taboo subjects at the time.
Now, TV historian and Number 96 fanatic Nigel Giles is taking Australians back to the iconic complex in his new book, Number 96: 50th Anniversary Album. He interviewed some of the show's biggest stars to reveal many explosive secrets, exclusive never-before-seen images and sordid behind-the-scenes tales that make the original TV show look like Bananas In Pyjamas!
