If you're feeling winter-weary, these flowers, which bloom in February and March, are a real pick-me-up. The early starters include low-growing perennials, adapted to flower in deciduous woodland before trees and shrubs cover the canopy in a fresh leafy blanket. Use them to sprinkle colour under deciduous shrubs and roses, in shady borders and pots. Plant them for pollinators too, as the nectar sustains famished insects coming out of hibernation.
