Molly took a sip of coffee and glanced around the tiny home. She was fortunate to get such a cute place. There was only one bedroom, but it was two blocks from the grade school where she would work. It was perfect.
She heard a loud knock and opened the front door to see an older man carrying a large, metal toolbox. Ah, the plumber the landlady sent.
“I’m Max,” said the man. “You got a leak?”
Molly led the way to the bathroom. “Yes, right here. I just moved in, and the landlady said the last renter didn’t report it. So, it’s quite a mess under there.”
He grunted, pursed his lips and said, “Where ya from?”
“Texas,” Molly replied, wondering if the man was simply trying to make conversation or if he was just plain nosy.
“You married?” He frowned at her, looking around the little house.
Why was he asking all these questions? Molly wondered but decided to keep up the niceties at least until her sink was fixed. “Nope, just me. Now, here’s the problem.” She leaned down and opened the cupboard, revealing water stains and a drip.
“Humph.” Pulling his eyes away from her, Max looked it over. “Might have to have my son help me with this one.”
Molly sighed. She would start her job next week and really anticipated the repairs would be made before then so she could finish cleaning and getting settled in.
“Would that be today?” she asked.
