At the start of the season we had an unprecedented seven different winners in the first seven races. Now as the season rushes to a climax we have one young man looking to win the final seven races. 
Sebastian Vettel looks to be cruising to his third title in as many years as Red Bull. Kudos to Fernando Alonso for making all the right noises about never giving up, but in truth Ferrari is playing catch up.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was an amazing race, Undoubtedly the best of the year and right up there among the classics in the seven star setting of the Yas Marina Circuit.
Kimi Raikkonen took one of the most popular victories in recent memory. Sebastian Vettel drove the race of his life from the back of the field to third place and Fernando Alonso reduced the points gap at the top of the table to ten points with two rounds to go.

In its brief history on the F1 calendar, Singapore has always delivered drama and incident packed races and the 2012 edition was no different. It is always great to see Sebastian Vettel on the top step of a podium where he is genuinely at his happiest and most noble. Michael Schumacher grabbed headlines but for all the wrong reasons, Lewis Hamilton was the unluckiest guy on race day when he was forced to park with a gearbox failure, Fernando Alonso again popped up on the podium against the odds, Jenson Button picked up the pieces for McLaren. We mourn the passing of Professor Sid Watkins, but at the same time we salute the massive role he played in making F1 and (by implication) motor racing in general a much safer sport.

The British Grand Prix weekend was a big one for Mark Webber, made even bigger a few day afterwards as Red Bull confirmed him for yet another year in the team.
The Silverstone weekend started off very wet - then all was forgiven as the sun shone brightly for the race itself, which turned out to be an intriguing affair as Webber turned the tables on Alonso.

Incredibly, Montreal delivered the seventh winner out of seven races. Lewis Hamilton - love him or not - thrived on the script that fate dished out to him, dealing with the circumstances with a new found maturity.

Early May is always a bittersweet month, no matter what year, as we are confronted with memories of two fatal accidents which stole from us two of the sport’s most loved stars – Ayrton Senna (1 May 1994) and Gilles Villeneuve 8 May 1982) – we did our Ayrton homage in the last issue and this week we pay tribute to Gilles.

It’s is always great for F1 when a driver wins his first grand prix, a coming of age no matter how young or old the driver is - in this instance, after another action packed race, Nico Rosberg finally did the business. Rosberg’s victory in China for Mercedes on Sunday made him only the third son of a winning Formula One driver to triumph in the sport since the championship started in 1950. Graham Hill and Damon Hill, Gilles Villeneuve and Jacques Villeneuve - now Nico and Keke Rosberg. Both Villeneuve and Hill (of junior variety) went on to become world champions....
