With the arrival of fresh Uranium fuel at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant site, Bangladesh has moved one step forward to implement its first nuclear power project. Around 90% work of the first unit of the 2400MW plant has so far been completed. The project authority now expects the trial operation of the first unit may start in September 2024 after loading the fuel in the reactor in phases. However, the commercial operations will begin in 2025. It is being said that the entire 2400 MW power plant may start evacuating power to the national power grid in 2026. Not only will it earn Bangladesh membership in the prestigious nuclear power club, but will also make a major contribution to limiting carbon emissions and reducing the cost of power generation. Bangladesh is giving priority to nuclear power as part of its plan for low-carbon development. By 2041, it wishes to add two more nuclear power plants. However, it must be borne in mind that nuclear power is not an isolated installation on a stand-alone basis. Its successful operation depends on other associated projects. The human capital required for the safe and smooth operation of the iconic project is also ready.

But, the transmission facilities required for evacuating the power to the national grid are unlikely to be ready before the end of 2025. Consequently, it will be a huge loss if such a megaproject remains idle because of delays in other projects.

a) Develop public consciousness on sustainable and even development of energy sector; 
b) Assist the policy makers in assuming pragmatic policies for a balanced development of the energy sector; 
c) Continuous supply of information among public; and 
d) Develop a group of reporters in this field 

Bangladesh is an energy deficit country like other countries in the region and most of the people do not have adequate access to the energy and power. The country is completely dependent on fossil energy source; at the same time, it is one of the most inefficient energy using countries in the world. 
It lacks efficiency in planning, management, generation, distribution, load management and even at the end user level consumption. 
In spite of the above drawbacks, issues relating to utilization of renewable energy, exploring alternative use of energy, planned use of environment friendly energy are significantly undermined in Bangladesh. 
The biggest challenge of Bangladesh is to find a path for balanced growth of its energy sector. Despite its resource constraints, EP dynamically strives to provide theenergy sector with a flow of information and create public awareness; so that policymakers get guidelines and platforms for its sustainable development.
