conservation frameworks in Shanti Niketan, emphasizing a dynamic approach. 
Landscape architects in Gurugram focus on sustainable design, 
and Prof. Kazi Ashraf introduces "Padma," exploring river journeys. 
Wishing a creative and peaceful new year ahead.

The special issue has been compiled with a diverse set of exciting ideas extendig the meaning and knowledge about the world of landscape architecture.

The special issue showcases some of the ISOLA Professional Awards Winning designs by young landscape practices in India, along with expanding the discourse in the form of essays, interviews   and art features. 

Although LA Journal has been featuring various perspectives, discussions
and projects based on the subject of Urban Design, this issue – Designing
Urban – brings to forefront the discourse in a formal way. We welcome
urban designers Rajat Ray and Biley Menon, who have curated this special
issue as guest editors.

The special issue based on Srinagar introduces the region while exploring its distinct features and character.
 It  compiles some of the hope stories in the realm of nature, culture and design belonging to the region.

In recent years, a diverse set of creative endeavors have been conceptualized, that
have expanded the boundaries of understanding the meaning and value of the
discipline of landscape architecture in the country. They have brought to the
forefront its multidisciplinary character, ever imbibing from various environmental,
cultural, and aesthetic influences around.  The issues profiles  some of these endeavours.

The issue brings to forefront important discussions, essays and features regarding the crucial issues of Climate Change. It is edited by Mohan Rao, landscape architect based in Bengaluru.

After two years of being produced in digital format, LA Journal
resumes its print version from the first issue of this year. We
welcome Sujata Kohli to our Advisory Board of the Journal.

The issue showcases landscape architect Jon Coe's contribution
in the area of policy and projects in rural realms
of the conflict zone of Afganisthan while in the book 
Wandering and Ponderings by Shirish Beri, the author

the ideas of Patrick Geddes, town planner of 20th century,

The special issue based on the subject of Landscape Education in India is edited by Nikhil Dhar, who has been involved in landscape academics for a long time now. The issue discusses various issues and concerns of teaching the subject at both fundamental and higher education levels.

profiling legacy of Joseph Allen Stein along with other features.

A special feature on the works on Feisal Alkazi  is another highlight of the issue.  

In India, the distinctive informal form of urbanity is one of the main challenges in this war against COVID-19. The issue features diverse views in this realm along with discourses on design of public spaces including few streetscapes.

While introducing the natural and cultural histories,the issue profiles small creative endeavours in the realm of spatial design and landscape in theregion while highlighting various lessons that can be learnt from it. 
It shares views and perspectives of professionals and thinkers who are engaged in working and thinking about it.

The issue shares views of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, a musician and Ranjit Lal, a naturalist and ornithologist, find an easy likeness with us designers, who are constantly engaged in improving the character of our art and grappling with the issues of identity, regionalism, respecting context, urbanization and living with nature. The diverse range of works and thoughts of architect artist Gautam Bhatia provokes us to look for our space in a larger framework, to think about the social relevance of our chosen path. Sharing the experiences and philosophy of the practice of m/s Prabhakar B Bhagwat is fascinating for anyone who is interested in the confluence of art and landscape design and is a source of inspiration for professionals.

The issue features an interview with Sunita Narain, Director, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), where she answers questions on various areas of common interest and concern with the landscape profession about nature, environment and development.

The issue also includes the study of Agra presenting a perspective of looking at a city as part of a larger natural region. The feature on revival of Naubad Karez in Karnataka tries to integrate the traditional water system with the present day planning while Birkha Bawari in Rajasthan, celebrates the design vocabulary of traditional step well, using vernacular materials and traditional building techniques, in a contemporary social context of a group housing. A dilapidated quarry site located in the foothills of the mountain range of Aravalli, in the midst of an urban jungle is restored as a public park in an ecologically sensitive way – reviving the native flora. We need many such projects in urban realms, especially wastelands and dilapidated sites where along with the functional requirements, environ-mental and social parameters become an integral part of the design process. Another public park in the city adopts a completely different design expression – Nehru Park, celebrating five decades of its inception. The feature on the park researches its history, design ideas and development while mapping its documentation process.
