It also covers Persian studies in India and an article about commercialization of textbooks in India,  features a review of Moth Smoke, an extensive reflection on one of Barry Gifford’s short stories, talks about Blindfolded Conversations and has an interview with Fazilah Bazari, a revolutionary yoga instructor from Papua New Guinea who has been recognized by various international organizations including the Vatican. In Frames covers our event Yard of the Bards (YOTB) in pictures. YOTB is a discussion forum that aims to drive the political narrative of the country.

Robert Uttaro is a Rape Crisis Counselor and the author of the book ‘To The Survivors’ which chronicles the survival stories of sexual assault victims. We had a deep conversation with him in ‘To The Survivors - A Conversation with Robert Uttaro’. Many of the survivors covered in the book were assaulted during their fragile childhood. This underlines the need for us to save the nascent phase of our children. Our children must be taught to ask questions and not just run a blast furnace of commandments in their minds. The article ‘The Classroom Chronicles’ tells the story of a teacher trying to change the ways in which children think and act.

We have a couple of book recommendations to make in the current issue through two of our articles. The book ‘The Bastard of Istanbul’ has been reviewed and the article ‘Humans of The Great Gatsby’ tries to gauge into the depths of characters of the great classic of F. Scott Fitzgerald. You will also be shown the face of love when it fails and leaves men and women separated or divorced in our world with a special attention on Indian women who have to face a mountain of hardships once divorced in ‘The Divorced Indian Woman’.

This is our 4th issue in the first volume and as with all our previous issues, this one too promises to take you on a ride that would make you reflect on the subjects discussed. A distinct take on the much-liked traveller’s destination ‘Wayanad’, a heart-warming conversation between a daughter and his father inside an ICU, a complex thought cloud about single-living, a poem about the blissfulness of togetherness, and a discussion about the pejoration of language - political or otherwise await you as you take your first step into our minds. The fact that Gandhi’s statement holds true even after his death makes it peremptory to initiate a discussion to get our basics right and amend the persisting flaws. Religious affiliations might be brewing the turmoil for the world, but India has additional complications like the caste system. Like religion, caste has also become more organized and business-like. The article, ‘Caste Politics and Bihar’ discusses how the fate of an important part of the largest democratic system in the world is decided by these power-hungry organizations.  ‘Let’s build a village’, which is a take on Raja Rao’s ‘Kanthapura’ also speaks about how caste has become ingrained in our consciousness.
Amidst much speculation Kazuo Ishiguro has won Nobel Prize for Literature. Although it is coincidental, Ishiguro’s ‘The Buried Giant’ has been reviewed in this edition.

Creative pursuits are always dotted with emotional wave-forms. These periods of indeterminate intimacy with the heart perhaps propel the mind to vent out one’s innermost feelings. These thought waves show up as creations to the world outside. The world within is glimpsed by the world without. However, can words completely map feelings? They invariably fall short. You might be able to vent much of it through your sketch, poetry, or song but the iceberg that you see is not the iceberg that exists. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park is no more with us. Our first article A Thousand Suns puts one of the most discussed and polarising albums of Linkin Park into perspective and dedicates itself to the days that we are going to live without one of the most heard voices on this planet. 

On our website, we had published our thoughts on our reading of the book - Josephine MacLeod and Vivekananda’s Mission by Linda Prugh in June this year. It was a deeply immersive read for us. About a month later, we had the opportunity to interview the author who also serves as the Secretary of the Vedanta Society of Kansas City. Linda’s Josephine is a conversation that the editorial team at Bookstalkist shall cherish for long.

We intend to make you reflect upon the subjects we discuss. A reflective piece has its own special place in the world of literature because of the unflinching participation of the writer as well the reader. That’s a precondition for the articles we decide to publish. We hope all the specimens of writing in the present issue will make you sigh, think, ponder, and reflect.
