Proof of Learn encourages web developers to venture into the dynamic world of the metaverse through its first project, Metacrafters, a learn-to-earn platform where NFTs are earned, minted and traded by completing Web3 tutorials. 

Having been at the helm of the online service platform Care.com for 14 years, Marcelo says, “I guess it’s not a surprise to be where I am now, following the evolution of the internet. I’ve always believed in it; I was one of the early believers.”

Gracing the cover this month is the beautiful and award-winning actor Bea Alonzo, who’s making her debut on the Tatler pages through this stunning photo shoot led by the renowned photographer Mark Nicdao. Donning sultry pieces from Gucci’s pre-fall 2024 collection, she shares her thoughts on how she dealt with heartbreaks and setbacks, and how these made her a stronger and better person. "It was such a journey… but I have moved on and I am happy," she says.

This is also our sports issue, and our lead article, Game Changers, showcases 18 athletes who have shattered the glass ceiling in their respective sports. Not all of them are Olympians, but they have brought pride to the country through their commitment and inspiration, setting new standards in their sports. We also have a story on padel, a sport that has become a phenomenon here and internationally. 

The excitement is building up as the 2024 Summer Olympics is happening this month. We cheer for the Filipino athletes who are all geared up to compete for medals, and our expectations are high in boxing, pole vaulting, gymnastics, rowing, fencing and weightlifting. We also have useful Olympic-related articles such as a Paris 2024 Guide which rounds up places to eat, shop and best things to do while in the City of Light. Our cover features a man whom I have known for several years. I have watched him start his career and witnessed how he has flourished into becoming one of the country's most prominent and noted business leaders, Kevin Tan. He spearheads Megaworld Inc, a billion-dollar conglomerate with diverse interests, including real estate, hotels and liquors such as Fundador brandy and Dalmore whisky. The 44-year-old has come a long way from once upon a time receiving the Tatler Most Eligible Bachelor award to soon becoming a business titan.

The multi-hyphenate and stunningly gorgeous Georgina Wilson-Burnand, one of the OG "It Girls," graces the cover of Tatler magazine this month. In the interview, she talks about her recent fitness journey, her family's move to Shanghai, and how she manages everything on her plate. Georgina last appeared on the cover of Tatler in September 2017 with her firstborn, Archie, who is now seven years old. Since then, she has given birth to two more children, Alfie and Charlotte.

Like many women, Georgina faced the challenge of post-pregnancy weight. However, she achieved a healthier and fitter version of herself through discipline and determination, as evidenced by her appearance on the cover. 

The May Design Issue also features a tour of the renovated Laperal Mansion, known as the Arlegui Guest House. This remarkable project, led by First Lady Liza Marcos, is a testament to Filipino creativity. Several architects and interior designers collaborated to create a Filipino-inspired design marvel ready to become home to foreign dignitaries visiting the Philippines.

In addition, the magazine features interviews with the country's best architects, interior designers, and emerging fashion designers. The cover story of our magazine features Nanette Medved-Po and the inspiring women behind her Aling Tindera project. These women are true heroes who have created a waste-to-cash initiative promoting economic sustainability. They collect plastic from their community and sell it to Nanette's advocacy, which reduces plastic pollution and improves the quality of life in the area. The story takes a closer look at Nanette's journey and how her initiative has transformed the lives of the women involved in Aling Tindera. It is a testament to the power of one person's idea to spark change and make a real difference.

This month, we are excited to introduce you to six ecowarriors, each making a unique and significant impact in their fields. From a conglomerate's CFO and Sustainability Officer to a geologist and an aeronautical engineer, these individuals represent the diverse range of people leading the way in sustainable practices. We also had the privilege of discussing the government's initiative to rehabilitate the Pasig River with Secretary Jose Acuzar of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and renowned architect Paulo Alcazaren. In celebration of Women’s Month, Tatler honours the women in the country who continue to inspire and make a difference. On the cover are four dynamic ladies who may be senators' wives but have made an impact in their own ways: Tootsy Echauz-Angara, Kathryna Yu Pimentel, Em Aglipay Villar and Audrey Tan Zubiri. They spearhead the Senate Spouses Foundation, Inc, which has done humanitarian projects—from home-building for the elderly to medical missions, disaster relief, education programmes and more. Besides their involvement in these causes, they are hardworking mothers, businesswomen and public servants. “My prayer is that every woman in the world be able to overcome and emerge victorious over whatever challenge she may be facing,” says Zubiri. 

Tatler also presents ten incredible women who may be under the radar but have made a dent in their respective industries. They are scientists, social impact investors, analogue astronauts, members of Parliament and the first female CEO of a respected company.

We also had an interview with the US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, who gave us inside access to her life and home. She shared what she loves most about the Philippines.

This month is our Food Issue, and our resident Food contributor and guru Angelo Comsti has created an exciting feature for all you foodies out there. He has compiled the latest food trends, the upcoming chefs and the new restaurants and bars for 2024 in a 16-page dossier that’s not to be missed! Other articles include everyone’s favourite Thai cuisine and a travel list of which hotels to visit in the Year of the Dragon.

At the centre of this first issue of 2024 is a man whose
career spans almost three decades and who celebrates his
birthday this month. An icon of showbiz for his good looks,
acting prowess and gentlemanliness, Piolo Pascual is this
generation’s true male superstar, one whose career and
stardom no one of his generation has attained. Most of his
contemporaries have flown the coop or retired, but his star
keeps shining ever so brightly.

In this spellbinding photo shoot, the creative photography
genius BJ Pascual (no relation) was inspired by Francis
Bacon’s paintings. BJ collaborated with set designer Princess
Barretto to develop a spectacular design. The result was
beyond stunning. It was so good that we had to give the feature
more pages than usual.

We hope that Piolo keeps inspiring and reaching the goals
he set. May he remain a beacon of light for the entertainment
industry and other sectors of society.

As we enter the last month of 2023, it is essential to acknowledge and honour the individuals who have contributed to shaping the Philippines landscape. We herald the most influential personalities who have left an indelible mark on the nation and are recognised for their inspiration, vision and significant impact.

This year’s Asia’s Most Influential (AMI) represents diverse fields—politics, culture, arts, entertainment, business, etc. Their influence will continue to shape the nation’s trajectory, inspiring future generations to dream big and work towards a better Philippines.

This month, we have the first-ever cover of Mariana Zobel de Ayala. She is an eighth-generation Zobel and executive director of Ayala Corporation, where she assumed the role last October 1. To those who may think the job title came along with her last name, they are farther from the truth. She started with corporate strategy, joined Ayala Land in project developments, then to Ayala Malls and the BPI, and then placed back at Ayala Malls.

Someone who has radically changed sports and culture is our cover star. David Beckham needs no introduction; his career as one of the world’s most noted and famous football players knows no bounds. We are excited about this coverage as it is the first time that all of the Tatler Asia have one person on the cover but different images for the editions. We tackle the pivotal role his family played in his life, his achievements in popularising the sport in the US, his relationship with Lionel Messi and his vision for the football industry. He will also launch his much-awaited documentary on Netflix, which coincides with the launch of this October issue.

This October is our Legacy issue, and we have informative articles that you can’t miss. We start with brands that have stood the test of time, from retail brands Rustans and SM to restaurants such as the Aristocrat, Max’s and Milky Way. Read about their beginnings and how they managed to navigate through turbulent times and flourish today. We focus on the different traditional crafts in Southeast Asia, featuring the venerable brand Betis Crafts, whose centuries-old woodcarving techniques continue to impress local and global markets. Our food contributor, Angelo Comsti, speaks to celebrated chef Tony Boy Escalante about his plans for his restaurant empire and how he is passing the torch to his son, Basti.

Our September issue features our much-awaited Asia’s Most Stylish (AMS). On the cover is a woman who needs no introduction. Anne Curtis, whose career spans over 25 years, is a movie, style and social media icon. She has become the benchmark and the definition of a superstar today.

Nine others joined Anne for this year’s Most Stylish; I would like to thank our two photographers who helped make it happen: Wesley Villarica and Patrick Diokno. The Philippines’ picks join the rest of Tatler Asia’s runway-ready, originals, avant-garde and trendsetters. 

Tatler Philippines puts a spotlight on First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos in this month's issue. Penned by contributing writer Philip Cu Unjieng, this compelling feature sheds light on the First Lady's recent initiatives and ongoing programmes and advocacies. 

Not to be missed in this issue: We celebrate diversity this month with an article on Ice Seguerra and his wife, Liza Diño. We highlight the most-talked-about Juan Luna painting, Hymen, oh Hymenee. We interview six of the best chefs in the region, including Toyo’s Jordy Navarra and try to answer the question, “Can the forward-thinking spirit of innovation be the champion of tradition?” We look to the 14 fresh graduates off to the best universities, hoping to return and work for a better Philippines. Our July issue celebrates Filipinos breaking boundaries and making their presence felt in their respective fields. Headlining this issue is the Hollywood superstar Vanessa Hudgens, whose journey to stardom started in 2006 when she had her big break playing the lead character, Gabriela Montez, in the hit TV series “High School Musical”. Her meteoric rise to fame was unstoppable, continuing over the years with more top-rated projects such as Netflix’s rom-com trilogy, “The Princess Switch” and the 2021 American biographical musical film “Tick, Tick... Boom!”, and most recently,  the provocative supernatural documentary, “Dead Hot: Season of the Witch”. Her phenomenal success in the international entertainment scene has brought so much pride and joy to many Filipinos worldwide.

Tatler enters the second half of 2023 with stories that spotlight individuals who are unprecedentedly breaking boundaries. Now on its 8th edition, the annual Gen.T list highlights the “Leaders of Tomorrow” who move forward to the beat of their own drums and aims to inspire future generations.

Starring on this month’s cover is Miss Universe 2022, R’Bonney Gabriel—the first Fil-Am to be crowned Miss USA and Miss Universe. In addition to her beauty, she is also an advocate for diversity, inclusivity and sustainable fashion. And being the oldest winner (she was 28 when she won, the age limit in Miss Universe), she hopes that her time as Miss Universe will inspire women not to feel restricted by their age. For this epic shoot in NYC, we had to call in the big guns, such as noted photographer Nigel Barker.

Malacañang Palace, the official residence and workplace of the President of the Philippines, has a rich history dating back to the Spanish colonial era. Constructed as a summer house in 1750, the Palace has undergone many transformations over the centuries, beginning with its conversion into the Governor-General’s official residence in 1863. It was renamed the Malacañang Palace after the Filipino Revolution in 1898. During the Second World War, it suffered significant damage, but was restored and expanded to accommodate the growing needs of the Philippine government. Today, Malacañang Palace symbolises the Philippines’ history and its journey towards the future. It remains an integral part of the country’s political landscape and a testament to its strength and resilience.

This month, Tatler tackles sustainability with the eco-warrior and one of this generation’s superstars, Nadine Lustre headlining the cover. Shot against the verdant surroundings, a crystalline river and the breathtaking mountains of Tanay, Rizal by the talented photographer BJ Pascual, Nadine and the team had their dose of adventure in this thrilling outdoor shoot.

Espousing sustainable and green living, Nadine is one of the talented actors today who use their voice and influence to amplify their advocacies. In her case, it is all about saving the planet, the importance of mental health, and fighting for animal rights.

In celebration of Women's Month, we spotlight four inspiring women leaders—Mayors Joy Belmonte, Abby Binay, Lani Cayetano and Honey Lacuna-Pangan—who have all championed women empowerment in the country today. They have blurred the boundaries of the gender divide and proved that ability and success know no gender. We proudly share their achievements and dreams for their respective municipalities and their views on critical issues in society now.

We also asked individuals from different fields, "What does it mean to be a woman today?". Check out their diverse and empowering answers in "Voices". We have an informative round-up of talented Filipino jewellery designers and women-led charities and advocacies. Tatler welcomes 2023 with an issue that celebrates optimism, gratitude and joy starting off with the much-awaited return of the Tatler Ball. After a three-year hiatus, the Tatler Ball came back in full force. On the cover is this year's representative to le Bal des Débutantes, Atasha Muhlach, the daughter of showbiz celebrity couple Aga and Charlene Muhlach. The prestigious event held in Paris brought together 17 debutantes from all over the world, an über exclusive set that Atasha stamped with her style, charm, and grace.

Tatler caps off the year by celebrating the champions of our time in its December 2022 issue. On the cover is Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy, who has upheld Filipino culture through his work, one joke at a time. Photographed by international photographer Filbert Kung, Jo Koy shares his not-so-easy journey to the top, his love for family and being Filipino and returning to the Philippines for the holidays. 

Also, in this issue, design giants Gert Voorjans and Vincent Van Duysen get candid about their friendship and different style ethics in an interview. Style mavens Lauren Santo Domingo and Johanna Ortiz take us on a tour of the colourful and captivating city of Cartagena. 

We have Drag Queen extraordinaire Manila Luzon, photographed by Junessa Rendon, as she reveals colourful details of her new music venture and speaks on helping drag break into the mainstream.

Two months before the start of 2023, Tatler Philippines unveils its Asia’s Most Influential List, the annual roster of the most relevant personalities who have been creating meaningful impact in the world of arts and culture, business, sustainability, philanthropy, public service, food and beverage, technology, entertainment and more. 

One of the honourees—and our cover girl this November 2022—is Marissa “Small” Laude. She has become an internet sensation and has made her weekly Saturday drop an anticipated event. During the pandemic and beyond, her Youtube vlog has made everyone laugh and cry and has captivated millions of viewers and followers. She has become everyone’s happy pill. Tatler Philippines editor-in-chief, Anton San Diego, recently flew to Singapore with Laude for a photoshoot hosted by Tiffany & Co where he took the chance to reacquaint our audience with the Internet star.  

Other exclusive features follow in our penultimate issue of the year. Stephanie Zubiri goes to New York with Rolex to interview the likes of Lin Manuel Miranda and Spike Lee on their mentorship programme. Eliza Romualdez-Valtos writes on the National Museum restoration preservation and volunteer programme and Tatler Philippines discovers the eight restaurants around Asia whose purposes are not only to serve excellent food but help the environment as well.  

On our cover are director Paul Soriano and his multi-hyphenated wife, Toni Gonzaga. It has been a banner year for the couple as they share the spotlight for this shoot with their adorable six-year-old son, Seve. In the last elections, they were prominently front and centre, going against the tide of people’s opinions and choices and magnificently rising above the noise. In the article, Moving Forward, they share their experience and how they rose above it, “If you’re doing something that’s affecting them and worthy of a response, you must be doing something relevant—and if they think [what you’re doing] is wrong, that’s their right.” 

“But as much as there was hate, there was ten times, a hundred times more love,” assures the filmmaker. “We’re so thankful for the new and great relationships we’ve made because of the campaign. We’ve also matured; we know who is worth our time, which is worth our emotions and feelings, and whom we’ll invest in. Anyone else outside that doesn’t matter.” Through the trials and tribulation, the two have also acutely fortified their relationship. “We’re stronger than ever, at peace and grateful for everything that we’ve been through,” Gonzaga attests.

This special issue presents Asia’s Most Stylish list with a four-cover extravaganza. We searched high and low to complete this year’s list—from a fashion-forward sexagenarian to a seven-year-old adorable child, from a president of one of the largest retail stores in the country to two beautiful actresses and influencers.
