Golden Scissors Award is back again with its fourth edition. This annual event is specially coordinated for hairdressers and barbers all around Singapore. On 10 September 2019, at Zouk, emceed by Tan Yan Wei and Fiona Loh, hairdressers and barbers were in for a night of fun and celebration as others showcased their artworks, talents and skills on stage. For the first time in GSA History, drag queens Alan Labush and Noristar Narcisso hyped up the audience with their dazzling appearances, personalities and entertainment, taking the entire party up to a whole new level.

This year, participants of the Creative Hairdresser Award have to adhere to the theme “Prism” when crafting out their creative works. Additionally, for the very first time and in collaboration with ANDIS Clippers, GSA is proud to present Modern Cut Fast Fade by ANDIS Category. The various competition categories include — Student Hairdresser Award, Elegant Evening Award, Hair Tattoo Award, Fantasy Award, Pioneer Generation Hairdresser Award and Pioneer Trade Distributor Award.

Getting Personal - Need a break from all the daily hair talk? This issue, we lighten things up a little with some fun interviews. We think it’s time we got to know our hairstylists a little better—what they like and what irks them. Have you ever wondered what type of customers other hairdressers face in their salons? This year, there is a brand new addition to the competition categories – the Hair Tattoo Award.

This issue of H4ufme is specially dedicated to our local talented hairdressers. We speak to Singaporean hairstylists who have been in the industry for a number of years about their start in the industry, their struggles and successes.

In this issue of H4ufme, we support local professional brands as we speak to the owners of these products or companies and find out important factors of developing a brand, the struggles that they have had to overcome, and the direction to success.

Competitions give hairstylists the opportunity to step out of the usual salon routine, take hairstyling to another level, and entrench themselves in creativity that may not be found in daily work. It is also one of the best ways to gain exposure as an individual artist.

With the hair competition scene in Singapore on a constant rise, we decided that we needed a VOLUME 2. However, this time instead of speaking to the winners like we did in our previous Competition Issue, we decided to interview the participants of various competitions to get an insight of each individual’s experience, and to get their opinions on what organisers can do to entice more hairstylists. We also spoke to some of the judges to get advice for hairstylists who are planning on competing in future and to find out what goes on behind the scenes of a competition.

With today’s ever evolving hair trends and techniques, there is no end to learning no matter how many years of experience you have in the industry. In Volume 2 of our Education Issue, professionals from hair salons, institutes and organisations share their views on the importance of education, what kind of education is necessary for the industry, and insights to the hairdressing occupation.
