In near future New Generation Light Weight Armored Vehicles Project will be on Turkey’s agenda. As part of this project, the
local development and procurement of many New Generation Armored Vehicles in various configurations will be revealed Still,
detailed studies are being conducted in line with the operation requirements identified by our relevant requiring authorities.
SSM intends to implement the prototype competition model in the New Generation Light Weight Armored Vehicles project
and within the scope of the Tank Transporter Vehicle project, for which we plan to open the tender in the upcoming period.
It is obvious that Turkish Land systems capabilities are achieving great impetus under the leadership of the
Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and looks forward to reacheing all its goals in and around Turkey as a manufacturer
and exporter of not only platforms but also sub-systems and critical equipment.

Despite the expected growth for military helicopters, the industry faces significant challenges, including defense
budget cuts in some of the traditionally strong western markets, but also in some emerging markets where the
end-users may be exercising caution in terms of procurement, both operationally and financially. The impact of the
global economic turmoil is visible across the majority of programs in military helicopter segments, as they generally
tend to be large procurements.
Military forces across the globe, particularly in emerging markets, are currently undergoing major acquisition and
upgrade programs in their helicopter fleets. Overall modernization also means that nations are considering filling
capability gaps and procuring helicopters in different segments to cope with multiple operational requirements.
Analysts believe that the industry needs to be innovative, not only in business models and operational support
such as through life contracts in order to support the end-user segments, and in turn drive new programs and
procurements.
Turkey is carrying out 27 projects as of today covering the Turkish Utility Helicopter, T129 “Atak” Advanced
Attack and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter and “Özgün” Multi - Role Helicopter programs. The “Atak” project is
amongst the essential milestones considering the establishment of a helicopter industry infrastructure in Turkey. TAI
accomplished the delivery of 22 T129 “Atak” Helicopters to the Land Forces Command. Thanks to these programs,
Turkey strengthens its position in Global Helicopter Market.

Developing capabilities, original-design systems and products, the Turkish Defense Industry has recently carved
out a different and significant place for itself among international platforms within the framework of participation in
multinational projects, in joint programs and in the collaboration carried out with leading firms in the global defense
industry. Significant developments in the R&D activities in the direction of the goals of the Undersecretariat for
Defense Industries have enabled Turkish firms to open up to the world with a bold and new marketing vision harboring
a new enthusiasm. With this dynamic vision, all parties of the defense industry have been taking part in major projects
as a competitor or as a business partner within a common synergy together with the developed defense industries
of the world in recent years, which is a big source of pride for all of us. IDEF fairs also reveal Turkey’s vision which
brings together developed defense industries and procurement authorities of the regional countries to a common
platform, creating different cooperation possibilities. 

Within the concept of the TF-X program a significant number of human resources will be required for the following
phases. In this respect, with the launch of the project’s design stage, numerous engineers from BAE Systems who are
experienced in the design of fighter jets will be coming to Ankara and collaborating with the experienced engineers at
TAI. Within the framework of our cooperation with BAE Systems, providing “on the job training” to Turkish engineers is
planned as well. In this context, with the launch of the project, numerous TAI engineers will be simultaneously assigned at
the facilities of BAE Systems (without being limited only to T-FX) for on the job training purposes and will be performing
tasks and gaining experience there.
Within the scope of this project, studies are being carried out on determining which requirements would be covered
by the available sub systems or off-the-shelf commercial products by projections on technologies which are to be utilized
in the 2030s. The in-depth analysis will be made within this context regarding which technologies should be adopted
indigenously as Turkey’s main objective is to put forth an Indigenous Fighter Jet designed fully in accordance with the
requirements of the Turkish Air Forces.

The Turkish Defense Industry’s effectiveness has increased in the Asia-Pacific region recently, especially with
the notable contribution of FNSS in Malaysia. Recently STM marked a major success with being awarded the
international tender that was initiated for the half-life modernization of class “Agosta 90B” submarines in the inventory
of Pakistani Naval Forces; competing against the French company which designed and built the submarines
themselves. Covering a total of 3 submarine modernization orders; 1 of which is confirmed in addition to 2 orders
on an optional basis; the contract was signed in June. SDT has also won an international bid opened in South Korea
for Embedded Training System (ETS) that will be used on a training aircraft.
I believe that in coming period, Turkey will strengthen its presence in export markets by its indigenous products
and capabilities.
