We extend our thanks to thousands of music lovers who embrace our magazine. We were delighted to see countless readers who said that they had been looking forward to have the magazine. Makam Music Magazine has been highly acclaimed and demanded not only in Turkey but also abroad, especially by foreigners loving the Turkish music, particularly in Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Greece, and Germany. We had to reprint our first issue twice, but we did not have any time left for a third print since now is the time for our second issue…

Just like our first issue, we have discussed topics each one more beautiful than other in this issue. We are sure that you will enjoy our magazine.

So, what’s in this issue?

We covered Selahattin Pınar through the eyes of his granddaughter Özlem Pınar. Şafak Velioğlu explained how he raises environmental awareness in children by means of music. We discussed the Galata Mevlevi Lodge and Mevlevi Culture with the great ney player Salih Bilgin, and with Dilek Türkan her new album "AN". Elif Kızılhan told us how she gave life to the tanbur. Our writer, Berna Karadoğan, MSc.Architect, visited the Topkapı Palace Harem Chamber from a different eye and penned the musical activities in the Ottoman harem for us.

In this issue, we are also taking you to Germany. We discussed the Turkish musical activities in Germany with all the distinguished artists, music lovers, and the Cultural Advisor of Turkish Embassy, Huseyin Gazi Coşan.

This is a magazine for everyone who sets their heart to music and we’d like to receive your opinions, suggestions, contributions and support.

Dear Readers,

Maybe, the most beautiful piece of art is music. It is the melodic life that begins inside a mother’s womb, an integral part of human nature. Music is the most beautiful common ground that brings people together.

The geography we live in has hosted a deep-rooted music history. At the same time, the states and the heads of these states also made a considerable amount of contribution to music. Especially during the periods of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic, the interest of the statesmen in music and some of them being seriously engaged in music, have ensured that this branch of art is supported and brought into the present with a unique richness. Thus, numerous musicians have created invaluable works of art. It is our duty of loyalty to our history to preserve these works of art, tell their value and transfer them to future generations.

On each page you will going to read, we have strived to establish a bridge between the fascinating mystery of the musical history and the colors of our day built on this deep-rooted history. Our magazine is prepared in both Turkish and English in order to contribute to its goal of telling the universal characteristic of the Turkish music to the whole world.

This is the magazine of all who set their hearts on music.
