The present NDA government after COP 21 and climate change conference is committed to the cause of renewable energy, especially solar and wind.
What is your take on current NDA government's policy initiatives in supporting hydro power generation? Any specific example you can highlight which supports renewable energy sector in general.
When Government is spending so much on solar and wind power, it requires some source of power which will support the system, because the reliability factor in case of solar and wind is not very high, their utilization also depends on the availability of sun and air. So an alternative source is required for grid support and this needs to be done speedily, so that they can bring the energy in the grid. This way the reliability of the grid can be maintained.
From that perspective the Government is very much active on utilizing hydro as a source of energy. We have seen that the NDA Government has cleared pending environmental clearances of NHPC Project. However, as a matter of fact the projects are not being started and there is delay, mainly due to the compliance of FRA- Forest Right Act which is part of the land acquisition process. In Arunachal or Sikkim, clearances are available with us, and we have even received the pre-investment clearance from PIB. However we are not being able to begin, because of Forest Right Act clearance which is taking plenty of time. I find that not much is being done on that account. Nevertheless, I would like to reiterate that the current Government is taking care of stressed assets.
With RBI's initiative, the MCLR (Marginal Cost of funds based Lending Rate) rate regime is in place. Do you see it impacting your cost of capital at all and how?
