A Birdroom Visit Leads To A Birdroom Refit

When visiting another fancier’s set-up, GERRY PARKER was inspired by the layout – and lack of wooden cages. Here, he details the beginning of his latest birdroom modifications

ATTENTIVE readers will have noticed that I mentioned my “new” plastic windowsill cages when I wrote about using sulphur candles against mite (C&AB, July 24). This piece goes into more detail on how the cages were built and how I modified them for my own use.

First, a warning. It gets vaguely technical, but don’t worry; stick with it because it’s really worthwhile. I still have the scars from woodwork lessons in 1965 and even I understood how to make these cages. There will be pictures.
