Second String, Double Delight
Cage & Aviary Birds|February 21, 2018

If you’re interested in supporting cage bird society events alongside a specialist show, why not keep another variety as well as your main one, asks DAVE BROWN? You could achieve double the results on the show bench and help towards conserving a rare breed at the same time.

STUDS

FANCIERS wanting to get ahead in the exhibition side of the hobby are usually advised to pick a single breed or variety and invest all their energies in producing the best examples they can. That is perfectly sound advice and if your aim is to win consistently at the highest level and only support the specialist events for your chosen breed, then all is well and good.

But what if you are a competitive specialist show exhibitor who thinks it is important to support local cage bird society (CBS) shows as well? Local CBS events are the backbone of the hobby, and aviculture would be much worse off without them. And many exhibitors feel it is important, when entering a local show, to send as large an entry as possible.
