Commentator Mike Tucker says the time is right to retire at Badminton after a ‘wonderful’ 40 years with the BBC.
IT is the “end of an era” for equestrianism as the television voice of the sport has announced his retirement after 40 years at the BBC.
Mike Tucker, 73, will keep some public address duties but Badminton (3-7 May) will be his last televised commentary.
The former rider, who came second at Badminton in 1983 on General Bugle, said it had been a privilege to cover equestrian sport for the BBC but it “felt like the right time” to stand down.
“My tie with BBC has been on a four-year period in the build-up to the Games,” he told H&H. “I feel in four years I’ll be a real old goat and I think it might be too many.”
