AN URBAN OASIS

PROJECT: Ambedkar University, Rohini, Delhi

This competition-winning design proposal responds to the site by creating an urban oasis for the students, amongst a plethora of multi-storeyed buildings around the site.

The project is situated on an 18-acre site divided in two land parcels by a city road. The master plan creates a linear green which runs along the central space of both sites, thus allowing the entire site periphery to have buildings which can adjoin and overlook the central greens.

The green space is not only a common view from the campus buildings but also students anywhere in the campus greens are able to see their own campus only with the university buildings hiding the view of residential and other buildings outside the site. The campus thus feels like an urban oasis and gives a large and contiguous sense of green space – comparable to much larger developments typically possible only outside cities.
