Adorned with the same building material for both its exterior and interior, Times Group • MT TITLIS Club in Foshan, China evokes a minimalist aesthetic that is serene and comforting.

State Of Tranquility

It all began with the desire to create a calm and tranquil space for the fitness and wellness club located in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China.

Experimenting with colours and forms, the team at Matrix Design built a modern minimalist building for the Times Group • MT TITLIS Club that brings harmonious simplicity to the next level.

BEAUTY IN UNIFORMITY

Breaking away from the usual practice of using different materials for both exteriors and interiors, Idmen Liu, chief designer and founder of Matrix Design, decided to extend the light beige marble used on the club’s facades to its interiors as well, creating a sense of continuity within the project.

Elaborating on the difficulties faced, Liu says, “The properties of building materials used for exteriors and interiors are generally different, for example, the former usually have rougher textures while the latter are more delicate.

“What we seek to achieve here is to highlight the same material for different purposes. For the interiors, we actually cut the marble into fine, smaller stripes to create a neater and smoother look and feel, suitable for indoors.”

Specially customised locally for this project, the patented light beige marble will darken over time, adding another layer of charm to the club’s clean-cut architectural form.
