It comes as no surprise that such vulnerable and passionate art would come from an artist who bears those same traits.
Patrick Church is a New York-based artist who I have actually featured once before in this column back in October 2015. Churchâs work has since, aggrandized in volume, concept and has caught the attention of famous singers and other artists from around the world.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Church on the phone after the interview. I gained more insight into the artist behind this unceasingly spontaneous, poignant and passionate work he turns out as fast as someone who seems to live every day like itâs his last.
Hey Patrick! How are you today? Is it as hot in NY as it is in LA? Iâm so happy to be interviewing you for a second time! Your work has changed so much over the last several years. Can you talk a little about that?
Hey! I love that we are doing this again. Yes, everything is changing and evolving so much I donât know how to even explain it or really express how Iâm feeling about it. Change is good and yet, also hard at times. Everything feeling so different. Not in a bad way, justâŠdifferent.
Well what has changed in your life since our last interview. Any major milestones?
Well, I met the love of my life, the most wonderful man in the world. He changed everything. We got married and itâs been the biggest journey. Life feels so different right now. I feel like Iâm suddenly able to explore creativity in a completely new and different way.
What do you mean by âcompletelyâ? Can you elaborate? Also, CONGRATS! You know Iâve seen the two of you. The most handsome couple if I do say so myself!

Next Exit New York
Coming off his series that focused on San Francisco and Los Angeles freeway signs, artist Eric Nashâs sights are now set on New York. Now on view at George Billis Gallery's Manhattan location are seven of Nash's new oil paintings and two drawings that explore the signage of New York City freeways. Although Nash's work is tightly rendered, he doesnât consider himself a photorealist, but rather someone who utilizes those techniques to express ideas.
Monster Mash
Vampires, witches, ghouls and all things that go bump in the night are the theme of the exhibition Monster Mash, now at Abend Gallery.
Inside/Outside
Those familiar with Geoffrey Johnson's populated by inky figures and trailing shadows that bleed into the wet streets, and architectural elements obscured to varying degrees by the misty atmosphere.
Bold Figures; Bold Color
For Brooklyn based painter J Louis, itâs all about balance, which can mean many different things in a composition, but for Louis, itâs about balancing his female figures among a unique landscape of color.
