Located near the serene foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas, the Hyatt Regency Chandigarh attempts to leave its mark in the architecturally rich city known for its design and planning by Le Corbusier. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s style, the hotel has thoughtfully planned its aesthetics with an attempt to pay an ode to the master architect.
Architectural beauty
The hotel has a sun-shading exterior, also called the sun breaker, a feature that deflects sunlight. Glass and stone has been smartly incorporated into the structure for maintaining ambient temperature, irrespective of the weather. While the façade cladding technology that is used is called dry cladding, along with Dholpur stone with double glazed window with High Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) and Visible Light Transmitted (VLT). While designing the façade, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification requirements were kept in mind.
The façade includes 200mm thick solid block, sealed air gap, Aluminium Composite Panel (ACP)/ stone cladding and 75 mm under deck insulation with high albedo paint and metal deck roof. Double glazing of higher SHGC and higher VLT has been used to minimise heat gain and maximise day lighting.
