INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

Four contracts worth more than Dhs430 million for Deira Islands, the new 15.3-square kilometre waterfront city being constructed in Dubai, have been awarded by developer Nakheel.

The announcements cover islands A and B on the four-island project, and are for a sewage treatment plant, a district cooling plant and a substation, as well as piling work for an 800-room beach resort.

In total, Nakheel has now invested almost Dhs7.5 billion in infrastructure and construction contracts for Deira Islands, which is set to transform Dubai’s Deira district into a world-class hub for tourism, retail and entertainment.

The waterfront city will add 40 kilometres, including 21 km of beach, to Dubai’s coastline, and will pave the way for the development of hundreds of hotels, residences and attractions. Deira Islands is expected to have a population of 250,000 and to create 80,000 jobs.

A construction contract worth Dhs4.2 billion was in April awarded for Deira Mall, the centrepiece of Deira Islands and Dubai’s biggest shopping mall in terms of retail space.

Deira Islands Night Souk, complete with more than 5300 waterside shops and restaurants, is under construction and due to open in 2018.

DESIGN SERVICES

Design and construction supervision services for Expo Village, which will host visitors and participants for Expo 2020 Dubai, are being provided by KEO International Consultants.
