We take a visit to the RIOT Buggy Factory to visit with Jake Burkey as he prepares to flip the rock bouncer world on its head with new changes before SRRS Puerto Rico.
“ Hey man, you really need to come check out this seat “
That was the sentence that came across my iPhone’s screen while sitting in the office. In the off-road industry, most people are well versed in the capability and benefits of using a suspension seat versus that of using stock seating. When it comes to competitive off-roading, names such as Corbeau, PRP, and Recaro come to mind when looking at their premium lines of seating. Earlier this year, Innovative Safety Products approached Jake Burkey about upgrading the seating that he utilized in his buggy. Being that Jake’s buggy horsepower figures range 700-plus figures, that amount of horsepower and torque subjects the human body to an enormous stress when launching off the line during competition. ISP supplied Jake with one of their full containment racing seats that was tailored to his body through body measurements to help prevent injuries to the neck that happened to Jake throughout the year. Assembling the seat together in the garage, we were both amazed at the time that was spent in putting this seat together. We were able to get a good feel on the cushion that was used as well as the metal panels in use in all sections of the construction to protect his body. The seat is has a large panel that protects the upper rear back portion of his head, the neck (the panels surround his neck with cushion), the upper and lower rear torso, hips, and under his buttocks extending partially throughout the thigh area. As previously stated, the craftsmanship and dedication to safety is top notch. We were unable to do testing with Jake over the weekend to gain his response on the comfort and feel throughout of the seat but he did provide a review on his YouTube channel, Busted Knuckle, for anyone interested.
