When Ben Love’s green Model A coupe, that we featured back in ASR issue 205, fell over at The Mud Run a few years ago, he decided the time was right to build another coupe, but this time it would be all-steel and built in the style of a wicked sixties US drag coupe.
Just a few months before the incident, Ben had made a part trade deal for this coupe with a guy in Brisbane for an XF650 hardtail bike he had. The car was basically just an original 1930 Model A coupe body mounted on repro ’32 Ford chassis with a Deuce grille and a few other parts. Ben’s original intention was to just fit the steel shell to the chassis of the green car, but that plan soon changed and with a collection of radical old school parts that he mostly sourced from the USA, Ben built this car in just six months! Ben has built a number of cool rides over the years, knows what he likes and has an enthusiasm for hot rodding that could rival any professional builder, so its no surprise that he knocked this one together in such a short time. He still owns his green coupe but has it stashed away for the time being, the only part to come from it for this build was the Buick Nailhead V8 motor and the headlight mounts.
