BMW's New G60 5

The all-new BMW 5 Series has arrived and it has gone beyond the boundaries in several respects, including the five-metre mark. With the powertrains and tech on offer, is it the most desirable executive business saloon today?

THE NEW G60-GENERATION BMW 5 SERIES, co-developed with its full-electric sibling, the i5, is set to arrive in October this year. Updated mild-hybrid petrol and diesel powertrains, two plug-in hybrid petrols, as well as two full battery electric powertrains have been confirmed.

The styling of the new 5er is bold but evolutionary. No overpowering grille and a familiar face is a good thing. However, it has grown; significantly. At 5,060 millimetres long, it's 97 mm longer than the outgoing model, with a wheelbase 20 mm longer as well. It's also wider, at 1,900 mm, and a little higher.

The LED lighting uses near vertical elements and looks sharp. The kidney grille features a wide surround and gets the optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. The cabin is the brand's first to feature a fully vegan interior as standard, including the surfaces of the seats, the dashboard, and the door-panels as well as the steering wheel. The BMW Curved Display is centred around the driver and consists of a 12.3inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display.
