A WINDOW on worlds, new and old, came my way this week.

Richard Bremner - New world, Old world

This is within a Jaguar world, of course. It is now possible to register that you want to order an electric I-PACE, which you’ll actually be able to plug in on your driveway sometime during the second half of 2018. True, that’s more than a year away, but if you were in any doubt about Jaguar’s intent when it revealed this pure electric car at Los Angeles’ motor show last autumn, you should not be now.

The shapely five-door I-PACE, which Jaguar does not define as a crossover, an SUV or hatchback, despite the fact that it could be all three, appeared in red at the recent Geneva show to ram home the point – that this is an all-electric Jaguar that you will soon be able to buy.

Rolling road

A SNOWY February morning is not the ideal time to be taking out a pristine Jaguar E-type, and an early Series 1, flat-floor model at that. But my mate Bryan Smart has booked his in for a three hour session on a rolling road, and doesn’t want to miss the appointment. He’s not looking for more power – this car is standard, but it doesn’t idle as smoothly as it should. He’s not bad with spanners himself, but neither he nor a couple of specialists have been able to solve the issue.
